Streets of Gold

Gympie's "Streets of Gold"

Gympie's “Streets of Gold” map was named in reference to Mary Street and other streets in Gympie which were paved with mullock, the rocks which contained gold. Because the streets were paved prior to modern gold extraction methods a lot of gold would have been left in the mullock. Mary Street is 1.5km long and is partly a one-way street running south so there could be millions of dollars worth of gold in mullock just below your feet.

How to find Gympie's “Streets of Gold”...starting from Mary Street

Travelling South on the Bruce Highway from Maryborough, take a left turn at the traffic lights at KFC (Channon Street) then turn right at the next traffic light into Mary Street. Park at anytime after you turn into Mary Street. Parking is also available around the perimeter of Memorial Park by taking a right at the 1 set of traffic lights (Monkland St) then a left (Reef Street) at the roundabout. Park at anytime or continue to drive parallel to Mary St.
